On March 10, 2022, SkyWest Airlines filed a US Department of Transportation termination notice to end air service under the United Airlines code to 29 airports across the country, including CKB. SkyWest Airlines indicated it is due to an ongoing pilot imbalance across the aviation industry. There is no immediate loss of airline service at the North Central West Virginia Airport. This notice simply triggers the process to find an alternative airline to serve our region.

What does this mean for my upcoming flight?
Airline customers should be aware there are no immediate changes to flight schedules. SkyWest Airlines indicated their intent to continue to serve the North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB) until another carrier is selected. Reservations can continue to be made from CKB at www.united.com.

Who will be the new carrier?

Should I schedule a future flight?
Customers can continue to make reservations at www.united.com from CKB. SkyWest Airlines has indicated they remain committed to serving our market during the transitional period. Should this change, customers with a current reservation will have the option to rebook at another United location or receive a refund.
It is important our community works together to continue to utilize the current SkyWest Airlines dba United Express service so CKB remains attractive to any new carrier.
When will a new airline be selected?
The US Department of Transportation will be issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a new airline in the near future. This process can be lengthy. Airport management has initiated discussions to ensure our region retains access to the National Air Transportation System.
Is CKB a viable market for another airline?
Yes. The North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB) is a growing market. We strongly believe our region presents an excellent opportunity for a new carrier to expand upon success.
Are any other air carriers affected?
No. No other air carrier at North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB) is affected by the decision SkyWest Airlines made. All other services and tenants continue to operate as normal.
